Leadership Reflections with Catherine Robertson-Hodder

Catherine is an actuary with more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, specialising in life insurance. More recently she has also been getting involved with ESG, with a particular focus on ESG in financial services.  She currently works in consulting (at KPMG) and loves working with her clients to identify and solve challenges across their business. She has a broad range of experience which includes pricing, financial reporting, M&A and being an Appointed Actuary. Prior to joining KPMG she worked in the life insurance industry.

In this interview, I asked Catherine:

  1. About her career path to date,

  2. What she enjoys most about her role as a consulting actuary,

  3. Whether she has ever made a big mistake, and how she handled it,

  4. How she manages work life balance as she became more senior, and

  5. Her top tip for actuaries stepping into management roles
