Episode 26: Emerging Actuarial Leaders with Alex Leung

“Your role is to manage the work and not actually do the work. If you end up doing the work, then you're not actually managing the work”

Alex Leung,
Emerging Actuarial Leader

Alex is a senior actuary of the Wealth Protection valuation team in ResolutionLife Australasia, managing the technical and delivery aspects of management and regulatory reporting. In this role, Alex is also involved in transformation projects such as separation from AMP, US GAAP, and IFRS17.

Alex has 10+ years of experience in valuation, pricing strategy, and data analytics across life insurance, wealth management, and banking practices. He spent 3.5 years working in Hong Kong in his early career but relocated back to Sydney in 2013, and in the same year he completed his actuarial and CFA exams.

Alex has been an active volunteer at both the Actuaries’ Institute and the CFA Society Sydney, focusing on education development and mentoring. He is also a graduate of the Guardian Actuarial Leadership Program.

Alex has a strong desire to develop skills in stakeholder engagement and strategy, while at home he is expecting a second child later in 2023.

In this interview Alex shares his reflections about:
