“If you're on some kind of a cliff and you're deciding whether or not to have a go [at leaving employment to start a business], I would say, don't think, just jump.

And not even a question for me, you know, have a go. And if you're going to give it a go, just do it a hundred percent to give it the best chance.”

Ilan Leas is a founder of an actuarial start-up, retender. He has worked in Australia, the UK and South Africa and is a former Chair of the Life Insurance and Wealth Management Practice Committee at the Actuaries Institute. He has a real passion for encouraging others to try the start-up path, at least once, and has written a book about all the things you shouldn’t do if going on this journey.
