Actuaries in Human Services with Elyse Sainty

Elyse Sainty is the Director of Impact Investing at Social Ventures Australia (SVA).

She leads SVA’s Social Impact Bond related work and has been instrumental in the development of each of the Social Impact Bonds that SVA has launched to date, including Australia’s first SIB.

A qualified actuary, Elyse spent two decades working in the financial services industry prior to working at SVA.

In this interview, I asked Elyse:

  1. What she likes about her current role leading work on social impact bonds.

  2. How a social impact bond works.

  3. How she learned to negotiate and what she finds helpful to improve this skill.

  4. How she made her way from being an actuary in financial services to social impact work.

  5. Advice she would give to someone wanting to make a career change into NFP / social impact work?
